Hugh was born on January 6, 1931, in Boston to Joseph and Eleanor (Halliday) Greenan. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps (Air Force) and served for seven years. He married Mary Connelly on February 19, 1955, sharing 61 happy years together before her death in December 2016. They moved from the Boston area to Vermont in 1966 when Hugh began working at the Sleepers River Research Watershed. Hugh spent the remainder of his working career there as a Meteorologist Technician for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Hugh was a family man of great faith. In addition to serving his country, he served his God as a faithful communicant of St. John’s Church in St. Johnsbury, serving on the Parish Council, as a lector, extraordinary minister of holy communion, and as a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served in many roles, including Grand Knight. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Whether it was teaching his children and grandchildren how to golf, going on vacations to York Beach, or coaching Little League, Hugh was always there for his family, and they will miss him the most.
Hugh is survived by his children Kevin (Roberta) Greenan, Paul (Joan) Greenan, John (Deb) Greenan, and Mark (Amy) Greenan; eight grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Michelle, Mary, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Patrick, and Emma Greenan; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members.
