Howard S. Reynolds of Lyndon passed away at the age of ninety at his home on November 19, 2016, surrounded by four generations of his family.
He was born January 16, 1926 in East Barre, Vermont to Howard G. Reynolds and Margaret Mercier Reynolds. He graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1944 after which he enlisted in the US Navy where he served out the war on the USS Randolph. After his honorable discharge, he attended Baltimore College of Commerce in Baltimore, Maryland. On August 20, 1949 he married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Wheatley of East Brookfield, VT who survives him. Howard went to work for Grand Union Stores in Barre and Lyndonville as manager of the meat department until he became an agent for Hopkins Insurance. A few years later he established the Reynolds Insurance Agency which he operated successfully until his retirement in 1988.
Always active in the community, Howard as a school board member was instrumental in making much needed improvements to the Lyndon Corner School and in the development of the Marigold Apartments. He served on the Prudential Board of the The First Congregational Church of Lyndonville for several years and, a member of the American Legion and Past Commander of the VFW, he often worked on efforts to support our veterans, including making sure they had recreational activities including bingo. Howard was also in leadership roles for the Lyndonville Rotary Club, active in Masonic Crescent Lodge #66 and member of Mount Sinai Shriners.
Predeceased by his parents, bother Russell Reynolds and nephew, Jay McPhetres Howard is survived by his sister Eloise McPhetres (Floyd), sister-in-law Jane Reynolds; children: Steven H. Reynolds (Susan) Deborah Reynolds (Joe) Patricia Ste. Marie (Barry); grandchildren Jason (Lisa), Jessica Jackson (Derrick), Nicole Peters (Scott), Chad Ste. Marie (Crystal), Bligh (Dawid), Grace (Brian) and Elizabeth (Simon), ten great grandchildren; Carson, Mason, Jayden, Logan, Giavanna, Rebecca, Hunter, Emily, Erin and Ethan and many special nephews, nieces and friends.
Services will be held November 26 at 1:00 P.M. at The First Congregational Church, 52 Middle St, Lyndonville, officiated by Rev. Judi Horgan.
Burial will take place at the VT Veteran’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
