Hazel B. (Gray) Baranowski, 74, of Lyndonville, VT, and formerly of South Hadley, MA, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning April 29, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 16, 1940, in Florence, MA, the daughter of Ashley Gray Sr. and Bernadette (Costello) Gray. She graduated from Northampton High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley A. Baranowski, Jr. on June 10, 1960. They lived in Queens, NY. Later they moved to S. Hadley, MA where they raised their family. In 1982 they moved to Lyndonville, VT.
Hazel's pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren have found memories of her spontaneous picnic hikes around her property and brook. All those who knew her will always remember her beautiful smile. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 11 years and was proud to have bridged the same 18 young ladies from Brownies to Cadets. After high school graduation, Hazel worked at Household Finance and later Peg & Ray's Card shop in Holyoke, MA. After moving to Vermont, she worked at her brother's, Ashley Gray Jr's, restaurant (The Miss Lyndonville Diner) and for the last 22 years, the Colonnade Motor Inn/Days Inn in Lyndonville as the front desk clerk.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 55 years, Stanley Baranowski Jr of Lyndonville; their son, Stanley Baranowski III of Barre, VT; their daughter, Diane Montminy and her husband Kevin of St. Johnsbury, VT; a sister, Gertrude Barnes of Hardwick, VT; a brother-in-law, Robert Baranowski Sr. and his wife Carolyn of Springfield, MA; four sisters-in-law, Jeanne Baranowski of Southampton, MA, Caroline Guillimette and her husband Mark of Greenfield, MA, June Tacus and her husband Scott of Glastonbury, CT and Janet (Gray) Burnor of Eden, VT. Hazel was blessed to have five grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Kevin Montminy II and wife Annie and son Kevin III; Kristin Croteau and husband Christopher and daughter Hannah and son Owen, Kaitlin Coburn and husband David and sons Lukas and Logan; Brittany Baranowski and fiancAC. Phil Hall and Danielle Baranowski; and her extended family of many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends; and her feline companion, Mustard.
She is predeceased by her parents; her brother, Ashley Gray Jr; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Barnes and Charles Baranowski; and a nephew, Wayne Gray.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Lyndonville on Saturday May 2, at 11:00am at the St. Elizabeth's Church with the Rev. Christopher Micale celebrant. Burial will follow in Lyndon Center Cemetery.
Friends may call on the family Friday evening May 1, from 6-8 at the Guibord Funeral Home.
