Harry 'Jack' Blanchard

October 16, 1925 — March 27, 2017

Harry ‘Jack’ Saunders Blanchard, 91, of Danville, VT, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at The Pines in Lyndonville where he had resided since 2009.

Jack was born on October 16, 1925 in Orleans, VT, son to the late Harrison and Grace (Milne) Blanchard.  A graduate of Orleans High School, he served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the destroyer, the USS McGowan.  He and his wife Phyllis met in first grade, married in 1948 and enjoyed a lifetime of love until her death just four months ago.

Jack attended the University of Vermont graduating with a BS in Chemistry in 1950 and then the University of Michigan receiving a PhD in Chemistry in 1955.  Jack worked as a research scientist for General Electric, then as a teacher and later headmaster at Kimberton Farms School and as Vice President of Operations for General Building Services in Pennsylvania.  In 1985, Jack and Phyllis returned to Vermont residing in Middlebury where Jack worked in real estate until retiring to Danville in 1998.

Jack was a master gardener, enjoyed walking, poetry, and sailing in his earlier years.  He was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church and the Vermont 251 Club; he held a special affinity for the town of Plymouth.  Jack had a love for books and enjoyed spending time at the Pope library.  He will be remembered by many for his brilliant sense of humor.

Jack is survived by his children: Mark, David, and Jamie; grandchildren: Stacey, Ashley, Javin, Miranda, Hannah, Sheldon, and Nigel; and great-grandchildren: Skyler, Arielle, and Lachlan.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday May 20, 2017 at the Danville United Methodist Church on the Town Green with a luncheon to follow.  Burial will take place later that day at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Orleans, VT.
