Harman Clark, Jr.

Harman Reed Clark Jr. of Sheffield, died May 29, surrounded by his family.

He was born October 27, 1931, in Elizabeth, N.J., the son of Harman and Helen (Lynde) Clark. He practiced law in New Jersey for 40 years before moving to Sheffield in 1996. He considered himself a Vermonter, though bearing the label of flatlander.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Jane Randall Hess Clark, who died in 2003. He is survived by two sons, David of South Brunswick, N.J., and George Alfred of Exton, Pa. (and wife, Sally), and by his daughter, Sarah Jane Ham, and her husband, Patrick Ham, of Sheffield, and grandchildren, Lydia, Katherine, Abigail, and Tobias John Ham. His favorite title was GrandDad and he delighted in being close to his grandchildren in Sheffield.

He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Barbara Gibbs of Northampton, PA, and Dorothy Ambler of Denver, CO, and brother-in-law, Charles Hardwick, of Beaver Creek, OH, and others in the extended family of his wife with whom he kept in frequent contact. He also appreciated the friendship of members of the Ham family including Leslie and Brenda.

Harman Clark graduated from Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, and from Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pa. making sure people knew that was before it became associated with Penn State.

Harman joined Rotary in 1966, associating with the Lyndonville Rotary Club in 2010. He maintained a Web page titled Sheffield Vermont, Past and Present, and photographed and helped to catalog the more than 1,000 gravestones in Sheffield's seven cemeteries. He also delighted in being in the Memoir Writing Group at Good Living Senior Center in St. Johnsbury. He was also interested in photography and researching family histories and genealogy, and promoting the mission of the Vermont Children's Theater.

There will be no Calling Hours.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the William Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield, VT with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating.
