Harlan Rivers

Harlan Raymond Rivers, 88, of Lyndonville, Vt., passed away at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, with family around him. Harlan was born in Montgomery, Vt., on May 10, 1927, son to the late Herman "Hermie" and Gladys (Domina) Rivers. He retired from Fairbanks Scales in 1989, after working there 29 years. During his retirement years he filled his time driving cars for local dealerships and spending his winter months in Florida with his wife, Theresa S. (Voyer) Rivers of 62 years. Harlan enjoyed his music. In his younger years he played guitar in a band. He also enjoyed playing his organ, accordion and violin. He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa of Lyndonville; his son, David Rivers and his wife Tina of Sheffield; his daughter, Debra Poulin and partner Lyle of East Albany, Vt.; his daughter, Dianne Rivers and partner Rodney of Newark, Vt.; his son, Brian Rivers and wife Laurel of Ft. Worth, Texas; his daughter, Elaine O'Hara and husband Michael of St. Johnsbury Center; his son, Jeffery Rivers and wife Gina of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends may call on the family from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening Sept. 15, 2015, at the Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church on Hill Street in Lyndonville with Reverend Bernard E. Gaudreau as celebrant. A private burial will take place at a later date at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery.
