Gloria Isham of St. Johnsbury passed away on the Feast of the Resurrection, Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017. She was 91.
She was born in Littleton, New Hampshire on Sept. 22, 1925, the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Drapeau) Lord. Her husband Sherman predeceased her on March 4, 2008, her daughter Jessica Fontecha on July 22, 2015. She was also predeceased by Jess’ husband Bob, Gloria’s sister Theresa Thayer, and Gloria’s brother Roger Lord.
Gloria worked at many different jobs over the years, but the job she loved the most was assisting at the Waterford Town Clerk’s office. She worked the counter at the former Comstock’s/ Farm Boy and waitressed at the former Archie’s Restaurant. She also worked at St. Johnsbury Glovers and Burndy’s.
She and her husband Sherm had a love for camping and having all the family join in. She had a passion for knitting, a talent she passed on to her daughter Jess and her family. She and Sherm raised their family on Lynwood Terrace in St. Johnsbury. Gloria was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church and was devoted to saying the Rosary.
She is survived by four of her five children: sons Stanley Isham and wife Carol of Omaha, Nebraska, Clinton Isham and fiancée Estella of Plattsburg, New York, Blaine Isham and wife Therese of Essex Jct.; Steven Isham of Lawrenceville, New Jersey; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; two surviving sisters: Sr. Dorothy Lord of Windham, New Hampshire, Arlene Lefebvre of Miami, Florida; many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Friday evening, April 21, from 5-8 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury this Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, marked for ‘Resident Activity Fund’, could be made out to/directed to Canterbury Inn, 46 Cherry St., St. Johnsbury VT 05819.
