Gerald 'Jerry' Leigh

September 11, 1945 — August 21, 2024

Gerald 'Jerry' Leigh

Gerald “Jerry” C. Leigh on August 21, 2024, came to rest in peace at his home in Lyndonville, Vermont.

Jerry is survived by his wife Jacqueline “Jackie” Leigh: his children Lori Leigh, Jeffrey Leigh, Gary Leigh and spouse Nicole Leigh, Rick Hanks, Jr. and spouse Calley Hanks, and Catherine Hanks and fiancé Kevin Knights. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jerry found great joy in all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as his close friend Richard Hanks, Sr, a very special niece Holly Sue Poor and nephew Richard Leigh, and who could forget the donut lady Jenny Owens.

Jerry was born in Canaan, Vermont on September 11, 1945, to Edward and Ada Leigh. Jerry Served two terms in Vietnam earning two purple hearts, two silver stars, one bronze star amongst numerous other metals and awards. He started his professional journey as a licensed barber then he turned his shears in for a hammer and became a carpenter. Once again making a decision to change careers, he chose to trade his hammer in for handcuffs, a gun and badge becoming a sheriff and Chief of police. As Jerry continued through his professional journey, he finally found his calling, becoming a master electrician and retiring as an electrician from various paper mills in Groveton, NH.

Jerry was strong and steady and like a rock for many people. He was a man that if you ever met him, you would never forget him. He loved to laugh, kid, and joke and enjoy life to its fullest. He was always willing to lend a hand and offer his years of experienced advice. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He lived his life by his own rules with his favorite saying “I am from Vermont and will do as I want”.

We will miss his laughter, wisdom and his stories, but will remember him; for he is a part of who we all have become today. We will wait for the moments between dream and reality where we may visit for a moment. Please join us for his celebration of life on September 7, 2024, at the VFW Post 10038 156 Hill Street Lyndonville, VT from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
