George Emil Lapierre

George Emil Lapierre, age 95, of St. Johnsbury, VT passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. 

George was born on April 30, 1928, in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He was one of twelve children born to Antonio Lapierre and Maria Julianna Bergeron-Lapierre.  At the age of 16, George began working for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as a Yardman.  He retired after more than 40 years with the railroad and then spent his days driving truck for Shop & Save.  In 1955, George married Christine M. MacAskell and in 1957, the couple moved to St. Johnsbury.  The couple enjoyed 60 years together before Christine’s death in 2016.  George enjoyed everything: meeting new people, all types of animals, his time with the railroad, and hunting.  He was a joy-filled person.

Survivors include his daughter: Linda Guers and husband Daniel of Ashford, CT; his son: Buddy Lapierre and wife Vera of Peacham, VT; 5 grandchildren: Joey, Aerik, Keith, Norissa, and Brian; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, 4-6PM at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, VT.  Burial will be at St. Johnsbury Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
