Gary Thompson

Sheffield, VT: Gary Lloyd Thompson, age 68, lifelong resident of Sheffield, passed at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Friday, February 21, 2025, after a very brief illness.

Gary was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on May 28, 1956, son to the late Lloyd William and Norma Shirley (McDowell) Thompson. He was raised and educated in Sheffield and graduated from Lyndon Institute in the Class of 1975. Gary was a truck driver his entire life beginning starting with logging and later doing long-haul runs; he also drove for Northern Gas for some time. The long-haul trips in his Maroon "Not really Red" Chevy were his favorites, and he loved being on the road and had only recently semi-retired. Gary liked hunting and fishing, snowmobiling and 4-wheeling. He was a people person and loved to talk and rarely ever said goodbye; he would simply get up and go.

He is survived by his two daughters and step-son: Samantha Thompson (Brian Fenoff) of Concord, VT, Kori Thompson of Savoy, MA, Jason Korpi (Megan) of Sheffield, his 4 siblings: Teri Thompson of Sheffield, Joyce Tedford (Chuck) of Idaho, Bruce Thompson (Missy) of Sheffield, Lisa Thompson (Doug Whitcomb) of Lyndonville, 6 grandchildren: Evan Thorn, Korbin Thompson, Ileana Fenoff, Jake Korpi, Ayanna Williams, Caleb Williams, 7 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews: Chris McElroy (Ashley) of Concord, Heather McElroy (Dwayne) of Island Pond, Melissa McElroy (Allan) of Barton and Mickaela Wright (Justin) of Sheffield.

Friends may call on the family Friday evening, February 28, 2025, from 5-7PM at the Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville. Interment will be private at the Wm. Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield.
