Frederick Buxton, Jr.

Frederick “Fred” Buxton, Jr., passed away on November 11, 2023 at his home in St. Johnsbury.

Fred was born on December 17, 1958 in Springfield, Vermont to Frederick and Mildred (Dennett) Buxton. A lifelong Vermonter, he attended St. Johnsbury Academy from 1972-1976. He met the love of his life, Judy Martel, who he married on September 5, 1982. Together, they created a loving home that welcomed four children, as well as beloved pets like his dogs Loki and Thor, and cats Smokey and Bella.

Fred was a hard worker, who most recently worked as a manager at Calkins Rock Products. He was proud of his farm surrounding his home which, despite his declining health, did not keep him from producing over 800 bales of hay this past season. He was also a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family above all else. 

Fred frequently reminded his children about the perils of the wild turkeys in New Jersey, and encouraged them to watch Yellowstone and its several hundred prequels.  His grandsons loved his sense of humor and enjoyed spending summers with him.  His family is grateful that he was able to spend time with his newest grandson the past few months.  

In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his infant son Christopher in 1988.

Fred leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Judy Buxton of St. Johnsbury; his children, Michael (Annette) Buxton of the Washington, D.C. area, Matthew Buxton of St. Johnsbury, and Jessica Buxton and fiance Ryan Mundinger of Danville; his siblings James (Nancy) Buxton and Timothy (Marilyn) Buxton, both of St. Johnsbury, and his sister Cathy McKnight; and his beloved grandchildren Benjamin, Selman, Goran, and Berkeley.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:00  AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 36 Central Street, St. Johnsbury, VT, with Rev. Hyung-Kyu Yi officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall, and burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
