On the evening of March 6, 2024, Evelyn Leavitt Smith,76, left her time with us to be with the Lord. She died at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Evelyn was born in Houlton, Maine on March 27, 1947, the only child of Clayton and Marybell Leavitt.
In 1973, she met her soulmate and the love of her life Duane Smith. They married on July 6, 1974. They lived and raised their 2 sons on the family farm in St. Johnsbury Center. She took great pride that they would be celebrating 50 years of marriage this summer.
Evelyn worked as an x-ray technician at NVRH for many years, eventually ending her working years at The Union Bank before retiring.
She enjoyed playing cribbage each week with a couple different groups with Duane always by her side. Together they attended the North Danville Baptist Church and very much enjoyed their church family.
Evelyn had a great love for dogs, especially her labs, but all dogs, the more the merrier according to her.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Duane, her 2 sons Daniel (Kara) and Jesse. Her 7 grandchildren, Joseph (Madison), Caleb (Emily), Kortney, Melanie and Saige Coons, Olivia and Ava and their mother, Debra, and 1 great granddaughter, Brynlee. She is also survived by a special nephew, Joshua Smith, and his family whom she thought of as her 3rd son, 2 brothers in law and their spouses and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Clayton and Marybell Leavitt, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Horace and Harriett Smith and her cousin Brad Leavitt, who was more like a brother to her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, 2024, from 1-3 PM at the Elks Lodge #1343 on Western Avenue in St. Johnsbury VT.
In lieu of flowers donations in Evelyn’s name can be made to the Riverside Rescue, 236 Riverside Ave., Lunenburg VT 05906.
