Elizabeth Greenwood

Elizabeth Susie Greenwood of Pleasant Street in St. Johnsbury, VT passed away at her home on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the age of 97.

Elizabeth was born in Concord, NH on January 5, 1921 to the late Perley J. and Gladys J. (Hickox) Moses. She was raised in Concord, NH and attended grammar school there.  She came to this area to attend St. Johnsbury Academy as a dorm student and never left.  In fact, she had lived in her Pleasant Street home since 1945.  Elizabeth married Leo Wilfred Greenwood but lost him 52 years ago in 1966.  She later married Malcolm Walters; Malcolm passed in 1996.  Elizabeth kept house and raised her children and 4 of her many grandchildren despite years of poor health.  She worked for a brief time in electrical technology at Weidmann. For the last 10 years, Elizabeth’s granddaughter, Sabrina, lived with and cared for her. A second granddaughter, Leighann, joined them about 6 months ago to assist with care.

Elizabeth loved time with her family, all six living generation of her family. She was an avid reader; she loved books and she loved her Bible. She did all kinds of needlework including knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. She was an impressive woman.

She is survived by two of her children: Leo A. Greenwood of St. Johnsbury and Pamela Parenteau and husband, Roger, of West Burke, VT; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many, many great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great grandchild.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband: Leo Greenwood; her second husband: Malcolm Walters; two sons: Richard and Bruce; and a daughter: Elizabeth.

A committal service officiated by John Sleeper will take place in the spring on Friday, May 25, 2018, 11am at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on St. John Street in St. Johnsbury, VT.
