Edith Irene Rivers, age 89, of Lyndon, VT, formerly of Darling Inn and St. Johnsbury, passed away at the Pines on April 12, 2017.
Edith was born on April 24, 1927 in Concord, VT, daughter to Luther, Sr and Florence (Holbrook) Stuart. She was raised and educated in Concord and then worked as a stitcher at Glovers for over 50 years. On August 28, 1948, Edith married Theodore Rivers. They shared 51 years together until his death in 1999. Previous to her time at the Pines, Edith spent 15 years at the Darling Inn where she reported having the best time of her life.
While at the Darling Inn, Edith could be seen walking all around Lyndonville. She loved to be with people. She also enjoyed going to the Moose Look Restaurant and riding around to see deer and moose. She loved watching and feeding the birds and had bird feeders outside her window at the Pines. She and expressed her appreciation for the great care given to her by the Pines staff.
Edith is survived by her daughter: Penny Chamberland and her husband, Raymond, of Lyndonville, VT; her son: Rocklyn Rivers of St. Johnsbury Center, VT; three grandchildren: Shawn Liberty and wife, Amanda, Erin Hartwell and husband, Steve Jr, and Lacie Noble; and six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Teanna, Katelyn, Kasey, Kameron, Kayleigh.
She was predeceased by her parents: her brothers: Lyndol Stuart and Luther C. Stuart, Jr; her sisters: Edna Eno and Dorothy ‘Dot’ Cushman.
A graveside service will be held at St. Johnsbury Center Cemetery at a later date.
