Duane D. “Bucky” Locklin, 78, of St. Johnsbury, VT died on December 22, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Bucky was born on May 24, 1939 in Lyndon, VT the only son of Leo and Virginia (Botham) Locklin. He attended the Mosquito School in Lyndon, the Center School in St. Johnsbury Center and the St. Johnsbury Trade School.
In 1958, after a short time in the National Guard, Bucky joined the United States Army and spent 2 years in Germany. On June 30, 1962 Bucky married Sandra Cushman and they raised their family in St. Johnsbury. Bucky worked as a machinist and toolmaker for 37 years at Fairbanks Scales and in retirement, he was a delivery driver for PJ’s Hallmark and Sanel’s. For 10 years he volunteered as the sexton at the St. Johnsbury Center Cemetery.
Bucky had a love for football and watched his Giants faithfully until the end. He was able to see them win only two games this season but he didn’t give up on them saying “Next year will be their year.” Almost as much as his love for football was his love of country music. Bucky wrote many songs hoping to get one recorded. He was able to play his guitar a few months ago and it wasn’t as loud as it once was but it was a joyful thing to see. Family meant the world to Bucky especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandra; daughter, Debra (Larry Masure) Locklin; two sons, Shawn (Carrie) Locklin and Eric Locklin; three grandchildren, Lucas and Colton Masure and Danielle Locklin; three sisters, Alice Bean; Irene Smith and Carol Ann Bowles of Lyndonville; three brother in laws, Charles (Patricia) Cushman, George Cushman and Ken Cushman; two sister in laws, Mary (Jason Edmonds) Lawrence and Norma (Leslie) Degreenia; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; two granddaughters, Danielle and Taylor Masure; a sister, Elaine Petty; two half-sisters, Anita Zentz and Shirley Bennett; five brother in laws, James Cushman, Jerry Cushman, Carroll Bean, Murdo Smith and Paul Petty; a sister in law, Shirley Cushman, three nephews and one great nephew.
