Doug Jones, 63, of Groveton, New Hampshire, and formerly of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, passed away at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, New Hampshire, June 26, 2015, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by members of his family.
Doug was born in St. Johnsbury on May 13, 1952, the son of Daniel 'Buster' and Mary (Bedor) Jones. He attended St. Johnsbury Trade School until the school's closing in 1970 and graduated with the St. Johnsbury Academy Class of 1971.
Doug had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes. He had a huge, generous heart and lent a helping hand to all who needed it. His children and grandchildren were loved beyond measure and some of his most precious times were spent with them. He had many talents and occupations. He was a long-time member of the St. Johnsbury Fire Department, was owner of Jen and Doug's Used Furniture in St. Johnsbury, was a machinist at NSA and a carpenter. A natural talent, Doug could build or fix anything. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, kayaking and playing cards with friends. Golfing with Ronald "Turk" Tallman, Lynda and Mike Morgan and other good friends was another of his favorite pastimes. With his wife Roxi, he traveled many miles of back roads and byways on their "Sunday drives," looking for and taking pictures of wild life, especially in the most northern parts of New Hampshire and Maine.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanna "Roxi" Jones of 75 Dean Brook Drive, Groveton, N.H. 03582; their daughter, Jennifer Jones (Joel) of Barnet; his daughter, Maria Jones of Danville; two sons: Michael Lacaillade of St. Johnsbury and Chad (Bonnie) Lacaillade of Gilman; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Kyle, Annabelle, Tristan, Corrbin, Cailin, Jacob, Eric and Natasha, also Skylar, Nicholas, Jacob, Nathan, Derek and Brandon; two sisters: Maxine (Paul) Levasseur of Venice, Fla., and Roxanne (Glen) Nelson of Thetford, Vt.; in-laws, Lynda and Mike Morgan and Stacy and Rodney Call; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother David 'Bibbi' Bedor, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A gathering of friends and family will be held this Wednesday, July 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Sayles Funeral Home in St. Johnsbury.
