Donald Gordon

February 5, 1937 — July 23, 2016

Donald Gordon, 79, of South Kirby died peacefully at NVRH Saturday, July 23, 2016 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Bronxville, New York on Feb. 5, 1937, the son of William Fairfield Gordon and Mary Wood (Dempster) Gordon.  He graduated from Syracuse University in 1959.

Mr. Gordon was a 20 year serviceman in the United States  Air Force and served in Vietnam during that conflict.  He retired with the rank of Major having served as Chief of Security Police in Texas, England, Montana, Florida, Mississippi, and California.  The Gordons bought their property in South Kirby in 1966 and moved there permanently in 1979.  Donald continued his security work at The Mt. Washington Hotel, a job he very much enjoyed.  When he was able, Donald drove for RCT.

Donald loved his granddaughters, all sports Boston, his dogs, and gentleman farming which recalled his younger days growing up on a dairy farm in West Redding, Connecticut.

He is survived by his wife Glenda of South Kirby; his son Clayton Gordon and wife Kathy of Concord, daughter Lorraine Gordon and Jacqueline Bilodeau of Chesterfield NH; three granddaughters: Nicole Harran of Cambridge, Emily Harran and Hannah Gordon both of Concord; two nieces, Wendy and Debbie Gordon.

The family will receive friends at the Sayles Funeral Home this Thursday evening, July 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. with cremation to follow.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the South Kirby Cemetery.

Memorial contributions could be directed to Riverside Rescue (236 Riverside Ave., Lunenburg VT 05904).  The Gordons adopted several pets there over the years.

Memorial and condolences may be shared privately at www.saylesfh.com.  The Sayles Funeral Home is located at 525 Summer St. in St. Johnsbury.
