Donald Ball, Sr.

Donald A. Ball, Sr, age 86, passed away at the Littleton Hospital in Littleton, NH, Wednesday morning, April 26, 2017, following a period of declining health.

Don was born in Lancaster, NH, on July 28, 1930, son to the late Cecil and Henrietta (Willard) Ball. He was raised and educated in Lancaster. Don entered the army at an early age serving two tours of wartime duty. In 1949 he married Molly Towle raising 6 children while living in the North Country and Goffstown. They shared 66 years together until Molly’s death in 2015. Don worked in excavating construction as a skilled gradall operator, eventually retiring as owner of Ball & Sons Gradall Rental of Weare, NH. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. In retirement, he delighted in creating woodworking toys and gifts for his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his children: Linda Matheson and husband, Howard, of Gilman, VT; Donna Simmons and husband, Donnie, of Junction, TX; Sandy Neuman of St. Johnsbury, VT; Pam Johnson and husband, Walt, of Goffstown, NH; Chester Ball and wife, Paula, of Lunenburg, VT; Donald A. Ball, II and wife, Cathy, of Goffstown, NH; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by 2 sisters: Doreen Towle and Marilyn Ball and 2 children: Gerald Reed and Barbara Jean Ball.

Services and burial will be private at the Summer Street Cemetery on Lancaster. There will be no calling hours.
