Waterford, VT: Dennis John Whitehill, age 59, of Rt. 5 in Waterford, died Tuesday morning, September 19, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Dennis was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on April 17, 1958, son to June (Baird) and the late John William Whitehill who passed in 1968. Dennis was raised in Waterford and educated at Waterford Elementary and St. Johnsbury Academy graduating with the Class of 1976. He owned and operated Whitehill Firewood and was the Transportation Area Maintenance Supervisor for the State of VT Dept. of Transportation. He and his wife, Sheryl, raised their children and made their home in Waterford for over 27 years. Dennis liked going to all the fairs including the Champlain, Fryeburg and Caledonia fairs. He enjoyed haying, driving to Florida, liked his pies, was an outdoorsman and loved the family gatherings and cookouts. Dennis was a big man with a big heart; his presence and smile will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife: Sheryl Lynn (Hibbard) Whitehill, his mother: June Whitehill, both of Waterford, his son: John Dennis Whitehill of Lyndonville, his daughter: Kristina Bogie and husband, Calvin, of Barnet, his brother: Nelson Whitehill and wife, Roena, of Waterford, his sister: Abbie Ruffner and husband, Ken, of Waterford, 6 grandchildren: Ava, Callie, Connor, Ainsley, Logan, Brianna, his very good friend: Mike Pelow and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A gathering will be held to from 1-4PM on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury for friends to come share stories and visit with family. The afternoon will conclude with a short prayer service. Interment will take place at a later date at the Passumpsic Cemetery where Dennis served as Sexton for many years.

He kept the Shriners very close to his heart.
