Dean Austin

Dean Austin of Concord passed away at home Sunday afternoon, May 1, 2016 with family at his side.
He was born in St. Johnsbury on Sept. 19, 1946, the son of Norton and Evelyn (Luther) Austin, Sr. He graduated from The St. Johnsbury Trade School. On August 31, 1974 he and Jane Whitcomb were united in marriage and their families became one.
Dean was a lifelong jack of all trades. He worked at NVRH in maintenance for eighteen years. He was a great Dad and a great Papa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle and ATV. If he picked on you, you knew he liked you.
He is survived by his wife Jane; eight of his nine children: Deborah Austin of St. Johnsbury, Brian Austin and Dawn Dockum of Bradford, Susan Austin of Barre, Eddie Whitcomb and wife Melyssa of East Burke, Scott Whitcomb of North Danville, Earl Whitcomb and Laura Moses of Milford, Delaware, Mike Whitcomb and wife Jennifer of Orford N.H., and Shawn Whitcomb of Concord; he was predeceased by a son Robert Whitcomb.
Also surviving are his grandchildren: Shelby and D.J.; Jamie and Sarah; Brooke and Cody; Danielle, Deryck, and Parker; Ryan, Samantha, and Jarod; twins Taylor and Dustin; Anthony and Brittney; Krystal and Alicia; all his great-grandchildren; a brother Norton Austin Jr., of Washington; and a sister Holly Tremblay of Williamstown; Jane's two sisters: Judy Fissette and her husband Fred of Massachusetts Jerilyn Haskins and husband Davin of Sheffield; Jane's two brothers Bruce Dixon of Kentucky, and Bill Dixon and his wife Carol of Lunenburg; nieces and nephews. He referred to his dogs Corky, Pretty girl, and Baby Girl as his kids.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Thursday, May 5, from 6-8 p.m. Pastor Rick Menard will close the visitation with a prayer service beginning at 7:45 p.m.
