David Arnold Patten, 79, of Sutton, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care & Hospice.
David was born in Lyndonville on January 22, 1945, to Frederick and Ruby (Stone) Patten. He graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1964 before entering the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years, including an 18-month tour in Vietnam. David was very proud of being a Marine and his service to our country. After his service, David spent his career as a truck driver and was known to his family as being able to tell you how to get anywhere without looking at a map!
Although not a man of many hobbies, David enjoyed hunting and being in the woods. He was known for sitting at his TV watching old Western movies. He was proud of his Cree Indian heritage and spent time learning more about its history. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood but was known for being as good of a listener as he was a storyteller.
The most important thing to David was family. He married Lorraine Brooks on June 7, 1969, and they shared 55 wonderful years together, raising two daughters, Tammy and Debbie, and welcomed four grandchildren into their growing family. Just three months ago, David was able to meet his first great-grandchild, Dudley. He will be missed by his family as they have lost a great mentor, teacher, and friend.
David is survived by his wife, Lorraine Patten, of Sutton; Daughters Tammy (Rick) Iffland of Sudbury and Debbie (Jason) Leclair of St. Johnsbury; siblings Joanne Root, Bruce Patten, Elaine McAdam, Cindy (Ron Boucher) Stone, Alice (Wayne Johnson) Stone, Arthur (Nancy) Stone, and Elwin (Caroline) Stone; grandchildren Juliette (Matthew) Berry, Katlin (Brian Kilpeck) Iffland, Jacob Leclair, and Lorin Leclair; great-grandson Dudley David Berry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on the family on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 2-4pm at Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Lyndonville, VT. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10am at Sutton Village Cemetery, Sutton, VT.
