Carol "Nutty" (Nutting) Robinson has gone home to Glory!
Born June 24, 1924 in Lyndonville, Vt. to the late Chester R. and Dora (Jackman) Nutting. Carol was a proud member of the St. Johnsbury Academy Class of' 42, though she always thought of Barton as her hometown, having spent the most graded school years there. Carol was one of 14 out of 187 applicants chosen to attend Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. Toward the end-of her training she joined the Cadet Corps and did her military training at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod. When the war ended she was dismissed since the military no longer needed more nurses.
During her Cadet Training she would travel in uniform for the discount. One Saturday night Clayt saw that beautiful gal in that uniform with her sister at the Sunset Ballroom and was smitten. They were married on April 10th …one year later. They took a six week honeymoon and drove to California, camping along the way. Dad was looking for flat land to farm but by the time they reached California the rolling hills of VT were starting to look pretty good to him! They returned and bought the Harvey Farm in Passumpsic, in 1946 where they each lived until their death.
They raised their 14 children on that farm with Clayt having many entrepreneurial ideas like the dance halls, the saw mill, a food booth at the fair, sugaring in the Spring, all of this as well as dairy farming! In later years he went to logging and she to driving truck to deliver the logs. They also started a pallet business. As her 80th birthday approached, she determined it was time to retire rather than buy a new truck. They both were hard working people and instilled those values in their children.
Mother loved the Lord and went to church whenever she could, attending her Bible Study group until just a couple months ago.
Carol is survived by 11 of her children: Gloria (David) Bullock of NC, Clayton (Theresa) of NC, Brenda (Richard) Ball of Passumpsic, Marcia (Roger) Martel of Waterford, Thomas of VA, Earl (Mary) of VA, Cynthia (Robert) Gordon of Lyndonville, Dot of Passumpsic, Stanley (Kathy) of Passumpsic, Russell (Lisa) of Passumpsic, Carol of Passumpsic, and close family friend Sandy Turman of Passumpsic. She is also survived by her sister "Pete" Blackadar, 41 grandchild, 84 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and counting, many nieces and nephews, and close family friends, the LeClair family.
Carol was predeceased by her husband Clayton (2008), daughter Mary (1975), daughter Diane (2009) and son-in-law Phil Graziose (2003), son Andrew (2010), granddaughters Rosetta (1969) and Alicia (2008), brother Ronald Nutting and sister Connie Burrington.
