Burton Hodge

April 13, 1927 — November 18, 2017

Burton Howard Hodge, age 90, of South Ridge Road in Sutton, VT, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a period of declining health. He has resided with his daughter, Linda, for the past year in Lyndonville.

Burton was born on April 13, 1927, in Sutton, VT, son to Ercil Howard and Mabel (Whipple) Hodge.  He was raised in Sutton and attended a two-year alternative high school agricultural program in Randolph, VT, from which he graduated with awards.  He did boxing and track in school and kept in close contact with many of his classmates there. Burton started his lifelong farming career working with his dad and went on to do dairy farming, sugaring, logging, drawing sawdust, cutting pulp logs, making fence posts, and lots more haying.  In December 10, 1959, he married Pearl Meehan. He also served in the Vermont National Guard.

He is survived by his wife: Pearl Hodge; 3 sons: Carl Hodge and his wife, Darla, of Sutton, VT, Dale Hodge of Sutton, VT, and TJ Tanner of Lyndonville, VT; 2 daughters: Linda Drown and her husband, Dennis, of Lyndonville, VT, and Rose McGrath of Sutton, VT; and many grandchildren.

Burton was predeceased by 2 sisters: Madeline Fox and Catherine Hatcher.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 12noon at Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville, VT.  Visiting hours are immediately preceding the service on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, from 10AM until the hour of service.   Burial will be at the Sutton Village Cemetery as weather permits.
