Blanche Byrd Maurice, a long time resident of St. Johnsbury, VT, passed away at Riverglen House of Littleton on Monday, February 20, 2017, at the age of 98.
Blanche was born in Grand Isle, VT on February 2, 1919, daughter to John and Ella (Larock) Byrd. She graduated from Montpelier High School. She married Roland Maurice and shared her life with him until his death in 1999. Blanche worked for 30 years at St. Jay Glove Shop. After their closing she worked at Fairbanks until her retirement in 1983.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought much joy to her life. It was a source of pride to Blanche that she was born in the Hyde Log Cabin, the oldest log cabin in the United States.
Blanche is survived by four sons: Donald Rafus and David Rafus, both of White River Junction, VT, Gary Maurice and wife, Marie, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Jeffrey Maurice of St. Johnsbury, VT; a sister: Marion Skinner of Lancaster, NH; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband: Roland Lionel Maurice; a daughter: Anne Dudley; and five of her six siblings.
A memorial service will be held at Sayles Funeral Home on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 10 am followed by burial at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Johnsbury.
