Beverly Joan (Matthews) (Hayes) Gehlbach, age 75, passed away at her home on Brightlook Drive in St. Johnsbury, VT on Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
Beverly was born March 12, 1942 in Morrisville, VT, daughter to Irving and Marguerite (Hillman) Matthews. After graduation she continued her education obtaining a nursing degree. Most recently Bev was employed as an RN at Caledonia Home Health Care in St. Johnsbury and in the past as an RN with Lamoille Home Health in Morrisville, VT, and several other Northeast Kingdom nursing homes.
Bev’s greatest joy and pleasure in life was “keeping up” with her children and grandchildren through family gatherings and living life’s adventures with them. Both Fairbanks Museum and the Caledonia Home Health-Hospice Program were fortunate to have Bev as a volunteer. Many benefitted from her contributions of time, effort, and caring.
Bev is survived by her husband: Louis Henry Gehlbach; and their blended family of her children and step-children: daughters: Cynthia Robillard and husband, John, and Deborah Dudas and husband, Dan, all of St. Johnsbury, VT; son: Bradley Hayes and wife, Connie, also of St. Johnsbury; step-daughters: Kimberlee Quarles of El Cajon, CA and Heidi Gehlbach and companion, Larry Hatch, of Lyndonville, VT; step-sons: Dr. Peter Gehlbach of Monkton, MD and David Gehlbach and wife, Mary, of Barre, VT; grandchildren: Jacob, Katheen, Julia, Jessica, Mackenna, Drew and Luke; 15 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Jean Curtis and husband, Robert, of South Barre, VT and Margaret Sample and husband, Richard, of Williamstown, VT; a niece: Linda Wiggers of GA, and a nephew: Jeffrey Matthews also in GA.
She was predeceased by her parents: Irving Edwards Matthews and Marguerite Alberta (Hillman) Matthews; and a brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Rosemary Matthews; and a step-daughter Kirsten Gehlbach.
Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Friday, August, 18, 2017, at the Grace United Methodist Church on Central Street with Rev. Kirk Thompson officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall and all are welcome to attend either or both.
A private burial will take place at Jedediah Hyde Cemetery, Hyde Park, VT.
Memorial contributions can be made in Bev’s name to the Fairbanks Museum, 1320 Main St. St. Johnsbury, VT 05819 or Caledonia Home Health & Hospice, 161 Sherman Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
