Betty A. Burt

Betty Arlene (Walker) Burt, 89, of Sheffield, VT, passed away at home on October 18, 2024 with her family by her side.

Betty was the daughter of Eddie and Iola (Sheldon) Walker. She was one of six children. She married Harold “Smiley” Burt on July 24, 1964. She was active in the Sheffield Federated Church, Ladies Aide, Home Dem & Best of Friends Club. She helped Harold clean the local schools, church, and Sheffield Town Hall for several years. She and Harold were known for their dedication to their community, for the rabbits and chickens they raised, and for their home egg business. She was always taking care of someone and always put everyone’s needs before her own. She enjoyed baking, gardening, playing games and reading books to all the children throughout the years.

Betty was predeceased by her parents Eddie and Iola Walker, husband Harold “Smiley” Burt, parents-in-law Marie and Harold Burt, nephew Glen, and siblings Goldie, Gordon, Bill, and Evelyn. She is survived by her sister and caregiver Joanne Tanner; niece and caregiver Darlene Simpson; goddaughter Kelly (Jamie) Lafleur and her children Domanic, Destany Nevaeh, Dezera, and Wyette; godson Andrew (Kristen) Simpson and his children Haley, Riley, and Bentley; niece Diane (David) True who also spent several hours as her caregiver; Sister-in-law Anne (Gary) French, Nephew Burton (Stephanie) and their children; as well as several other nieces, nephews, great friends, and family.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Janet (Bill) Tutte and Diane True, as well as the staff of Caledonia Home Health & Hospice, and Joann from Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging for their support.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 2pm at Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Lyndonville, Vermont with The Rev. Ann Hockridge officiating. Friends may call on the family beginning at 1pm at the same location. Burial will take place at William Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield, Vermont at the convenience of the family.
