Concord, VT

Bernice Pierce, 86, of Concord, VT, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2017, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab after a long illness. “Nan’s body finally caught up with her soul.”  She had been an actively involved member of the town of Concord, where she was always quick to volunteer her cooking and knitting/crafting skill to help support various groups, with Concord High School at the top of the list.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and a founding member of the Concord Historical Society Museum.  She knit hundreds of socks and mittens that were donated to the Santa fund or other charitable organizations.

She was born in Gilman, VT, to Cecil and Louise (Morin) Smith, on August 2, 1930.  She attended Littleton High School and she graduated from Concord High School in 1967.

She was married to Donald M. Pierce of Concord, VT, where they raised both of their sons, Gordon and Kevin.  Donald predeceased her in 1998.

She is survived by her elder son: Gordon Pierce and his wife, Elaine, of Danville, VT, and their family, her grandsons: Seth Pierce and fiancée Porshe McCray, of Potsdam, NY, and Joel Pierce and wife Karey, and three great-grandsons: Landon, Michael, and Kieran, of Danville, VT; and by her younger son: Kevin Pierce and his wife, Debbie, of Berwick, ME, and their family, her granddaughters: Jessica Pierce and great-grandson, Max, of Berwick, ME; Kristina Pierce and husband, Nate Duval, of McCord AFB, WA; and Ericka Pierce and great-grandson, Ty, of Berwick, ME.

Visiting hours will be held at from 6-8PM Friday evening, January 13, 2017, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury.  A service by the Order of the Eastern Star is planned for 7:30PM. A Graveside Service will be held at the Cushman Cemetery in Dalton, NH in the Spring.
