Arvid William Odett, age 95, of Shadow Lake Road, Waterford passed away at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, NH, Sunday evening, January 17, 2016, following a long battle with Parkinson's.
Arvid was born in Detroit, Michigan, Christmas Day, 1920, son to the late Ernest L. and Edith (Long) Odett. He grew up and was educated in Berkley, MI, graduating high school there in 1938. On April 13, 1941, he married Alberta Dehnke and shared 71 years together until her passing in 2011. During World War II, Arvid served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater and was involved in the battle at Okinawa. When he returned he found employment with Vickers, later Sperry-Rand and Unysis, from which he retired, following the company from Michigan to Massachusetts in 1955 to this area where he made his home in 1982. Arvid was very handy and loved craftwork in many aspects including building a grandfather clock. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days and bowled in a few leagues. He and Alberta loved to travel, which they did as often as time allowed. During his time in Massachusetts he was a founding member of the Lutheran Church in Westboro, and locally he was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Littleton, NH. His family will always remember him as a great man.
Survivors include his six children: Russell Odett and wife Helen of Ft. Gratiot, MI, Christine E. Hardy of Waterford, Lynne Reed and husband Robert of Tehachapi, CA, Kenneth Odett of West Boylston, MA, Marcia Mullen of Sheridan, WY, Daniel Odett of Richford, a brother: Wayne Odett of Southfield, MI, 12 grandchildren, all of his great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Alice Hamilton and two brothers: Leland and Milford.
Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
