Anne Shirley Miller, age 76 of Calista Avenue in Lyndonville, VT passed away peacefully at McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester, Vermont on Friday, April 14th surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born January 3, 1941, the youngest of 7 children in Berlin, NH to Rocco and Amelia (DiProspero) Memolo. Her love for children and teaching started at a young age as she was the Activity Director at the local park, in Berlin, planning and playing games with neighborhood children as well as her own nieces and nephews. Shirley graduated from Lyndon State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1965. This is also where she met the love of her life - Kenneth Miller, whom she married on July 1, 1967.
Shirley taught school for over 25 years. First in Dalton, NH, then Richford, VT before moving to Lyndonville and teaching in the Lyndon schools before retiring in 1999. She enriched many lives of those who had her for a teacher and who worked with her.
Shirley took pride in working in her flower gardens, being a member of the Altar Society at St. Elizabeth’s Church and the Lyndonville Mother’s Club when it was active. She also enjoyed volunteering at NVRH and loved knitting Prayer Shawls for patients and families in need.
The most important joy in her life was her family. She loved supporting her children and then her grandchildren in sporting and school events. She loved being the house where her children and all their friends gathered for sleepovers and food throughout high school, and she loved traveling to visit her family and even accompanying them on trips whether it was Canada, Disney World or the coast of Maine.
But her happiest times were when her children and grandchildren gathered once a year in the summer at her home. A week of laughter, fun, shopping and day trips around were enjoyed ending with a dinner at the Wildflower Inn.
She is survived by her loving and caring husband of 50 years, Kenneth Robert Miller of Lyndonville, VT; her son: Brian Miller and wife, Lori of Westford, VT; her daughter: Kathy Ranney and her husband John of Frisco, TX; her brother Ralph Memolo and his wife Sylvia of Brookline, MA. “Nanny” will be deeply missed by her four grandchildren: Leah & Collin Miller and Emily & Cameron Ranney. She is also survived by a Sister-in-law: Florence Memolo of Newton, MA and Brother-in-law George Chatis of Melrose, MA. Her Nieces: Deborah Elcik, Sharon Memolo, Faye Memolo and Nephews: Rocky Memolo and Louis Memolo were all very important to her as were her many friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by Brothers: Fio and Tony Memolo, and Sisters: Clara Johnson, Donelia Chatis and Doris Memolo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Lyndonville VT at 11am on Saturday, May 6th. Visiting hours will be held from 1-3 and 6-8pm on Friday, May 5th at Guibord Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Lyndonville, VT.
