Allan H. Schmidt, 78, of South Wheelock, passed away suddenly at his home on August 24, 2024.

Allan was born on September 10, 1945, in New Britain, CT to Herman and Mildred (Dudek) Schmidt. He attended school in Cromwell, CT before entering the United States Army during the Vietnam War era. He married Katherine Baker on February 18, 1977; they shared 47 years together and raised two children. He served as Chief Engineer of the Cromwell Fire Department before moving to Vermont where he worked as a chemical sprayer in the agriculture industry.

Allan enjoyed doing many things outdoors. He was the President of the Snowmobile Club “Winter Wanders” and enjoyed hunting. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He was also a collector of trucker hats. The most important thing to Allan was his family, and he will be missed greatly by those he leaves behind.

Allan is survived by his wife, Katherine Schmidt of South Wheelock; son Kenneth Schmidt of Farmington, ME; stepdaughter Faye Carr of South Wheelock; grandchildren Samantha Carr and Jessica Carr; and great-grandchildren Jayda Schmidt, Caiden Bickford, Adrianna Bickford, Carson Bickford, Able O’Keefe and Brandy Raye Carr. Allan is also survived by some of his closest friends Dwight D. , Arthur D ,Steve L , Wayne A, Ken R , Jim M, and many more .

In thinking of how to honor her husband, Kathy wished to share the following poem, called “I am always with you”: A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me…Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs, the good life I lived while I was strong.

A celebration of life will take place at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
