Alexander 'Sandy' Black

St. Johnsbury Center, Vermont: Alexander M. “Sandy” Black, age 64, of Cross Avenue in St. Johnsbury Center, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Sandy was born in Newport, VT on June 14, 1953, son to Harold G. and Sara (Ramon) Black.  He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1971 and went on to attend Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. On August 4, 1973, Sandy married Lorraine R. Francoeur. He retired from the St. Johnsbury Fire Department as Captain after 33 years of service, working as a Para Educator for the St. Johnsbury School System in his retirement.  Sandy enjoyed reading, wildlife and bird-watching, music, and taking trips to Wells Beach, Maine.  He was an avid fan of the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox.

Sandy is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine of St. J Center, his 3 children: Jonathan F. and wife, Michelle, of Waterbury Center, VT, Bryan M. of Watertown, NY, Beth Ann M. Gulbay and husband, Emre, of Reading, MA, his sister: Patricia Acevedo and husband, George, of Milton, VT, 4 grandchildren: Paige E. and Leah M. Black, Jayden and Olivia Gulbay, 5 sisters-in-law: Lise Forest of Palmer, MA, Helen Wood of Chandler, AZ, Jeanne Powell of Milan, NH, Diane Brennan and husband, Tom, of Isle La Motte, VT, Carmen Littel and husband, Marvin, of Manchester, ME, and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and last but far from least, the Brotherhood of Firefighters, whom he held always so near to his heart.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Guibord Funeral Home, on the corner of Center and Main Streets in Lyndonville.  A reception will follow at Bailiwicks on Mill Street in St. Johnsbury from 2-4PM.

There will be no calling hours.

Donations may be made in Sandy’s name to either the Gene McDonough Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Santa Fund at 1187 Main Street Suite 3 ,St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
