Alex Hartshorn died unexpectedly on October 6, 2023, at his residence in Eustis, Florida. Alex lived the majority of his life in Monroe, NH, enjoying the northeast. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in the class of 2006 and spent one year learning the welding trade in Bangor, Maine.
In 2007, he joined the Vermont Army National Guard. Alex did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and upon completion was assigned to Co. A – 572nd EN BNIBCT 86th (MT) in Bradford, VT, a group destined to be his second family.
To his brothers in arms, Alex was known as “Razor”. This is an excerpt given to us by a friend who the family calls “SGT Ski”: “Razor was one of the most charismatic ‘get the job done’ soldiers you would ever come across. Anyone who was lucky enough to serve with him can remember his voice, his charming smile, and his matter-of-fact attitude towards every aspect of his life. Razor is loved by so many in and out of uniform and will be forever missed. Razor served honorably with Alpha Company 1-172 Calvary in Afghanistan in 2010 as a driver, gunner, and truck commander. He received numerous awards, including the Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal. Alex was honorably discharged on August 20, 2016, at the rank of SGT.”
Alex loved life, his family and friends. He loved going to hunting camp, and he loved fishing, duck hunting, Patriots’ games and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He took life as it came. Alex had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back even if he didn’t have one. It came to our knowledge upon his death that Alex was an organ donor. So many other lives will now be saved. Alex was a true hero.
Alex is survived by his mom and dad, Doris and Terry Hartshorn, his sister and brother-in-law, Tiffany and Rob Ayotte, his twin brother and sister-in-law, Ian and Caroline Hartshorn, nieces, Zoey Ayotte and Amelia Hartshorn, nephews, Christian Ayotte and Clem Hartshorn, Aunt Claudette Cassidy, Aunt and Godmother Huguette Faust, Aunt and Uncle Francine and Lanny Costa, Uncle and Aunt Richard and Joy Paquin, Uncle and Aunt Brian and Doreen Hartshorn, Aunt Mary Hartshorn, many cousins, and special friends Milton Figueroa, Nick Figueroa and Mark Jaynes.
